The Epiphany parade in Florence was a treat and with your focusing attention on the different types of people in the processions depicted by Fra Angelico I felt a renewed sense of the unfathomable mystery that God became man in Christ. Do you identify with the mother who has two toddlers?

Beautiful! Loved the video of the Florence parade. I don't know how the thrown flags could be seen for catching in the dark! A wonderful and edifying display, so well done and rehearsed,. I hope they continue this tradition.

I hope so too! It is quite impressive and beautifully festive… It seems that the parades/processions are growing! A friend told me her Church in D.C. did one for Epiphany.

Thank you Amelia for extending Christmas for me as I pilgrimage through this wonderful painting with you as inspired guide. I loved the way Mary is portrayed with a Red, Green, Blue garment that relates to her privileged relationship to the Holy Trinity. I take the lightly clad men breaking through as an invitation to the Sacrament of Baptism and it's life changing sanctifying grace. I was wondering about the "ball" in Jesus left hand...thanks for answering my ?

These are really excellent observations Mike. Thank you for sharing….I especially love your point about the colors of Mary’s cloak mirroring the traditional colors associated with the three persons of the Trinity. Of course, Rublev’s Trinity comes to mind. You don’t see all three together with Mary very often, but it really is majestic here.

I like your point about the nude figures on the ruins too pointing to baptism. I hadn’t thought of that.

Thanks for this beautiful article! We studied Fra Angelico and Lippi last semester in our homeschool and we had taken a trip to the National Gallery to see this painting. It is so beautiful and so radiant! My second-grader studied it at home painted parts of it :)
